No sleep...

Well last night was the worst!!! The past 2 weeks I have been having heaps of nights where I either can not get off to sleep or I have been having lots of dreams and do not feel like I have slept at all. Last night was the worst and I just could not get up for training. Now yes I did consider putting the i-pod on with some good music to get me going, but decided to be sensible :-). I am not sure why I have not been sleeping well....except I have been having a lot more caffine... both coffee and diet coke. Any one who knows me will know how much I love diet coke after a hard or long run... maby a bit too much of it. So I though I would commit myself early to a rest day! Its in writing now, so this afternoon when I feel fine I will resist the temptation to run.

Ha ha, you can always edit your blog ;-)

At least you had a great run yesterday afternoon to make up for missing this morning. And if you really can't resist the urge try putting some slower music on the iPod.

I know the angst of no sleep - but I have special little lollies for that. I don't like having to take them but the alternative is very, very ugly.

Thanks for your words of wisdom - it is always nice knowing that, when I am feeling crummy, there is a voice of reason out there somewhere.

Just to make me feel extra special my knees have decided to add their bit to my frustration. Methinks too many extra hilly walks in NZ.

Can you get decaff diet + cola drinks?

You only missed horrible 400s. I wished I was in bed this morning.

You could put on the ipod in bed, or you could put the ipod on Ray instead.

Quit the coke. It has heaps of caffine in it and the only way to stop drinking it is to give it up entirely, I stopped drinking it about 5 years ago when I drank so much of it it caused big problems.

I won't be doing the marathon this year, I haven't got the endurance base for something like that yet, and I'm usually prone to injury. I'm hoping really hard to do Jindabyne though.

Insomnia is a real bugger, Kit.

I find that "no caffeine after 2:00" works OK for me, but like running, we are all an experiment of one, so try to work out what works best for you.

Anyway, good luck with sleeping tonight.

Cheers,
Ben

Yeah it's a bit of a common theme with distance runners I think... it is amazing how many people preparing for a marathon report poor sleeping patterns. Dunno why.

Good decision to stay home on this occasion though Kit no point in pushing too hard and then getting ill.

My tip is don't stress over not sleeping as that just leads to less sleep i.e. dont say to yourself tonight "I AM going to sleep tonight" because that is the one thing that will ensure you wont - just accept that last night happened and go about business as usual ;-)

Kit I buy caffeine free diet coke (aka 'why bother'). I don't think it comes in convenient cans though - just bottles.
