What a brilliant run this morning! We ran from the Homebush olympic centre this morning and because it was the Striders breakfast they had arranged for us to do the last 400m around the olympic track. The weather was perfect.... sunny, clear, cool and a nice breeze. I felt fantastic running this morning and seemed to get a second wind in the last 5kms. We averaged about 5:44/km for the run, which I was happy with. Jim had a bit of a job keeping us all together... so there were a few stops to let the group catch up. That suited me as I could squeeze in a stretch. We ran through the olympic site, along the river walkway to silverwater bridge, crossed over and ran back through a few suburbs, past the meadowbank ferry and back across an old railway bridge and then thethrough the back of Rhodes, Bicentenial park and then finished in the stadium! What a buzz... you would think we were going for gold! We cheered and yahood everyone as they finished the lap and then relaxed in the sun. I am sooo pooped! I forgot how much effort it is to run 21km.... I have snuck in a nana nap after lunch :-)
It took a little while to warm up this morning, but no pain throughout the run. I could feel my glutes getting tired toward then end of the run. I need to make sure I do lots of stretching of my glutes and ITB.
Distance: 21.5km
Time: 2hrs and 4mins
Average pace: 5:44/km
Mood: Happy and tired!!

Great going Katie. Must've been so much fun doing that last 400m on the track. Did you pretend you were Cathy Freeman :-)
Dunno about you but since I started on glute strengthening exercises I feel them just about every time I run. Hopefully being conscious of them is a good thing, it means we are using them.
Nice flat run to get back into the distance, and then the stadium finish, I'd get my second wind too.
Hope you've ran all traces of that rich food out of the system.
So glad you had a lovely run Kit. Isn't the weather just glorious to be out in at the moment?
Hope you avoid injury now so you can keep enjoying it.
That's a top run, Kit. Right through all of my training haunts.
Enjoy your well earned rest!
Hey Kit you were in my neck-o-the-woods today :-)
Thanks for your comment on my blog - I loved the Holy Grail reference - very appropriate.
Great to see you so easily getting back into the swing of things.
A good solid run Katie. It always leaves you with a good feeling after a run like that. You can start the buildup to the longer stuff with confidence.
Great times, Kit! Good to read that you had a "brilliant" run...they don't always happen like that! I sneak in a nap too after any long run! You're finishing the year of so well....what will happen in 2006??
Good to hear your glute is behaving itself - unlike mine which is very sore :-(
