Long and hot!!

Today: 26km
Week: 78km
Month: 247km
Year: 247km

I had 25kms on my program for today and a few of the girls wanted to do 30km- so I set out with the goal of somewhere in between. It was really hot this morning and once the sun was up- I was wilting! We started at Lane Cove National park and ran through the park, through Pymble, Roseville and a heap of other hilly suburbs. This was not the most scenic of runs but lots of beautiful homes to drool over! Steven Jackson informed us that the first 20kms of that run is pretty much up hill- peaking at North Ryde where it makes its way back down to the park. When we got to the spot to either do 26km or keep going for 30km- I have to say I piked and did the 26km. I felt fine energy wise and easily could have done the extra 4kms but my hamstrings were still feeling tired and the hills really took it out of them. I ran with the 6am group and easily kept up with the pace. I felt really comfortable most of the way- give or take a few of the hills. We ran all the hills and only stopped for water briefly. Its a really nice feeling when you get into a good rhythm and you feel you could just keep running. We averaged about 5:45min/km over the distance and the final km was 4:40min/km pace. The legs feel tired this week- to be expected with all the hills. Ray has volunteered a calf massage- woo hoo what a man!! Then on with the skins and a bit of veging is in order!
I am very excited!!! I have filled out my entry form and will send it off tommorow! I feel like I am on a roll at the moment... just have to keep all the niggles in check. So touch some wood everyone!!! I am keen to see how I will go in the 8km and the Striders 10km over the next few weeks- it will give me a good idea of where I am at.

Distance: 26km
Time: 2hr 30mins
Average pace: 5:45/km

That sounds like a tough way to do a long run Katie, the first 20k uphill!

I think we all know where you're at, you are doing great. Looks like your handling the mileage really well.

Keep up the good work!

And here I was grumbling about my run! Your run sounded tough and yet you ran it comfortably - good on you!

Had to smile when you responded to TA's question about how you fit in all the training - for me its also get up early (usually), my kids are big kids, and I have a messy house!!!

By the way, you've been tagged!

It sounds like you are at a pretty good place right now Katie. Just focus on the training over the next couple of months and keep those niggles away and you will kill 'em in Canberra.

Looking good for Canberra Katie. The next STaR is flatter and starts down at Kogarah. Should be a much faster pace only an H2 course.

Kit, well done, another strong 6am STAR run and hilly. Good base building.

Niggles. Lots of progress in distance and fitness lately. Still a fair way to go before the marathon. Might be time for a step back week to let those little injuries settle down and allow some of the recent training stimulus to take hold. Let the body catch up. It seems you are following a program, and it may contain step-back weeks, but if not, give it some thought.
