Todays run was really tough! I found that the humidity really knocked me about. I woke up feeling really thirsty... not a good start. I was hot just getting ready for the run so knew it would be hard one. As soon as we got going I was literally pouring with sweat... I drank copious amounts of water but was thirsty the whole time. Now I usually smile for most of my runs.... good company and the love of just being out there. Today I hit the 20km mark and felt really rotten. I started out really well, felt strong and comfortable. We were running a good even pace... chatting away as we do :-) Once we hit 20km I decided to cut back early which meant running 23km instead of 28km. Deanne said " whats wrong.... your not smiling!"- she was right there was not a smile around for miles :-) I plodded back to the start and sat on the grass guzzling water and ate a few jelly beans. Once I stopped I actualy realised I felt tingly in the hands and a bit nautious- also had puffy fingers...... all pointing to being dehydrated. I was a bit disapointed that I couldn't do the full distance BUT very happy with my decision to not keep running. I think if I had done the full distance I would have felt really sick and wrecked me for the week. Once I had drunk heaps of water and had some cereal I feel fine. So definately the right choice and given the tired week I have had probably a good time to do a shorter run. I was also really happy with the way we ran in the first 20km.... the pace was really comfortable, so if we can maintain that over the distance I will be one very happy girl!!
Another week ends and only 7 weeks to go. I feel like I have regrouped mentally and am ready to attack the next hard 5 weeks. I am looking forward to a good 30km next week and will look at when to slot in one or two 35km runs. The 5km challenge is next week and then the 10km at Homebush (a personal favourite). I think this next 5 weeks my aim is to consolodate the base I have built, eat well and stay injury free. Bring it on!!!!!

Woohoo!! Another good base week and more kms in the bank. 20+ kms is always a good effort, especially in today's conditions.
For mine, I like running with queens, drama queens.
Well done Kit. Another tough one safely tucked into the Canberra Bank. What a great way to enter the home (training) stretch to Canberra!
I know what you mean about the heat, it was shocking. I was happy I only had a short run to complete today.
Hey Kit, I'm so sorry I haven't dropped by in a while but I see that your training has continued on the up-and-up while I've been gone.
Waking up thirsty is never a good sign. Another lesson learnt eh? Pulling the pin a bit early was the right decision to make. I have no doubt that you'll bounce back and be all smiles again next week !
I know that feeling Katie, when you just don't seem to be able to quench your thirst. Then you drink and drink and the water just swirls around in your stomach when you try to run and makes you feel even worse. So it was a very smart move to stop when you did, at least you will be in good shape and can put in a top week of training this week.
I just realised, you have a really bad day and still do 23k - how far have you come!
As Tesso says, 23 km is still a good run and I'm sure you made the right decision as you've got a few tough weeks ahead and you don't want to jeopardise those.
I was talking about SWEAT with Mr Lulu this morning and I'm thinking of starting off by doing a couple of track sessions first. I'm going to see physio on Friday so will see if he'll give me sign off for the following week.
Good decision Kit - considering how close its getting to the BIG one! I certainly know the feelings you described. I'm about to start an easy week and i'm really looking forward to it 2 rest days, yay!
It was a very hot day yesterday Kit - after mowing the lawns I was up till 11pm sucking water into my belly so I could run today.
Great effort to get through another fantastic run at a nice quick pace - well done ;-)
Still a good run Katie. It was tough running yesterday in those conditions. The same thing happened to me at Dee Why last year. Once you get dehydrated, you can't recover. So you made the best and safest decision to pull the pin.
