This morning I decided I would run to the pool, go for a swim and then run home. This would be the first time I have run with a bag on my back and the first time I run after a swim. I did a 3.5km run to warm up and then jumped in the pool for 30laps. It felt so nice in the water today, the sun was out but the pool felt really nice and cold.... beautiful on the muscles after a run. I tried to start off slower and then build up my speed each 10 laps. I finished my 30 laps in 34mins. Then the run home... It felt weird running after a swim! It felt like when you get of a boat or a rollercoaster... took a little while to get into a rhythm. Ran a different loop home... avoiding the hill :)
This afternoon was a trip to the Lindt Cafe... the hot chocolate was to die for! YUM!! I will definately be back for more :)
Tommorow is my long run... 2hrs. I am going to try and maintian a good pace tommor insttead of just plodding. I will do an hour on my own and then meet up with Sean and his squad for the second hour. Most of these guys are under 18 and are little grey hounds... so no doubt the second hour will be tough!
Run: 6.7km
Time:35:05
Average pace 5:15/km
Swim: 30 laps -34 mins

Lindt Cafe - yummm! I love that place - I will definitely be returning for a visit when I get to Sydney again!
As for getting faster in the pool -you are on the right track alternating faster laps with slower laps - a form of swimming fartlek. You could also swim a set of 50m intervals (eg 5 or 10) - swimming each one in a certain time (something that is doable but hard) wth a set amount of rest between each 50m. Then once a month, swim a time trial - I usually do a 1km time trial. This will let you know whether you are getting faster.
Hope this helps!
